POLICY STATEMENT
Texas State is committed to providing a diverse, inclusive, and accessible environment and recognizes individuals who participate in activities that promote the university’s inclusivity goals.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The purpose of the Inclusive Excellence Showcase Awards program is to recognize university community members for exceptional commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility at Texas State as evidenced by their submissions to the annual showcase. These awards recognize and reward faculty, staff, and students for activities that promote the university’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility goals and the impact of those activities.
The Council for Inclusive Excellence will present awards each year in the following categories: Best Inclusive Program ($1,500); Best Funding Proposal ($750); Best in Show ($750); Most Innovative Program ($500); and People’s Choice ($500). Award winners will each receive a certificate in addition to a monetary award.
All award winners will be announced at the annual Inclusive Excellence Showcase reception.
AWARD CRITERIA
All nominees (individuals and groups) are required to be participants in the current Inclusive Excellence Showcase in order to be eligible for nomination and receive an award.
Award nominees will be required to be in “good standing” with Texas State, as reflected by a record of compliance with university policies.
A monetary award and certificate will be given for the following categories:
Best Inclusive Program ($1,500);
Best Funding Proposal ($750);
Best in Show ($750);
Most Innovative Program ($500); and
People’s Choice ($500) .
PROCEDURES FOR APPOINTING THE SELECTION SUBCOMMITTEE
The Council for Inclusive Excellence will appoint the Inclusive Excellence Showcase Award Subcommittee to identify recipients for the awards from the current academic year. The subcommittee will be comprised of the following:
the Chief Diversity Officer
a minimum of one student;
a minimum of one staff; and
a minimum of one faculty member from the Council for Inclusive Excellence.
The Inclusive Excellence Showcase Award Subcommittee will develop a rubric to use for award selection to demonstrate criteria for each award.
THE SELECTION AND AWARD PROCESS
The Inclusive Excellence Showcase Award Subcommittee will select winners for all awards, except the People’s Choice Award prior to the Inclusive Excellence Showcase launch and reception. The People’s Choice Award voting will be open to the public for one week beginning the day of the launch. People’s Choice award winners will be announced no later than one week after the voting has closed.
The Inclusive Excellence Showcase Award Subcommittee will present their award recommendations to the Council for Inclusive Excellence.
